CLOTHES LINES (2017)
These collage drawings pay homage to my fondness for sewing patterns, the fragile, crinkled sheets of tissue paper that, as a girl, my mother taught me how to use to make my own clothes. The compositions emerge from the abstracted lines of the patterns, superimposed and overlapping and then amplified by additional, hand drawn lines to create depth and suggest three-dimensionality. The resulting images evoke various possible references - architectural drawings, musical notation, elaborate space vehicles – or pure abstractions. For me, they offer a moment of quiet balance and calm, coupled with a nostalgic hint of childhood happiness.
