ATLAS OF SIMILARITIES (2019)

This series at first was an exploration of the impact of materials on form. I created an initial set of abstract compositions from collaged sewing patterns, then created parallel sets based on those compositions, using a variety of materials and techniques (torn paper, trace monotypes, ink squeezed over Yupo paper), articulating the forms within the language of each medium. As the work progressed, it became a meditation on the relationship of personal identity to universal human experience, the interplay between differentiation and repetition and the fluctuating awareness of that which is unique versus that which is shared.
